FEATURES

Selenite isthe name given to transparent gypsum crystals. Its name is derived from the Greek word 'Selene', meaning 'moon'.

Selenite is white hydrated calcium sulphate, although it can sometimes have grey or yellow tints due to impurities it may contain. The crystals are usually tabular blocks composed of elongated parallel plates. It may also form twins, fibrous crystals or a radial shape

Selenite occurs in clays and lapis, in salt deposits and in metal deposits.
